WINNIPEG — Whether you’re a pro cyclist or a beginner, winter is the perfect time to chill out on two wheels, right?
A week of cycling adventures kicked off Friday at The Forks with Big Bike Chill. From February 8-17, events are scheduled daily geared towards cyclists and winter enthusiasts alike.
“Our numbers clearly show that people aren’t shying away from outdoor activity in the winter, and we’ve been long-time advocates for creating connections for all modes of active transportation,” said Paul Jordan, CEO of The Forks.
“We’re happy to host this week of cycling activity, in hopes of removing some barriers to entry for folks — come by and take a fat tire bike for a spin, or join a group ride, connect with other riders and get your confidence up.”
The event is brand new for the 2019 winter season and gives cyclists the chance to try all sorts of activities, including a Valentine’s Day Dutch bike ride, fat bike races, a winter triathlon on the Red River Mutual Trail, Ice Bike Races, snowshoe and fat bike demos and more.
The Forks has also groomed a fat bike trail on a portion of its property and along a section of the Red River Mutual Trail.
