The Winnipeg Goldeyes have signed former Major League outfielder Willy Garcia to the club’s roster.
Garcia last played in 2017 where he appeared in 44 games for the Chicago White Sox. The Dominican Republic native hit .238 with 15 runs scored, five doubles, three triples, two home runs, and 12 RBI during his time in the Major Leagues.
The remainder of Garcia’s 2017 campaign was spent with the Triple-A International League’s Charlotte Knights where he batted .286 with five home runs and 20 RBI in 31 games.
“I’m very excited about the addition of Willy,” said Goldeyes’ manager Rick Forney. “He’s a very talented player that I’m hoping will have a huge impact on our team.”
Garcia is entering his ninth season of professional baseball, and was originally signed as an international free agent by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2009.
The Goldeyes now have 19 players under contract for the 2019 season.
