WINNIPEG — Two Manitobans are facing charges of trafficking and possession after Ontario Provincial Police seized 21 cases of illegal tobacco products.
The province says officers on patrol in the Rossport, Ont., area stopped a car on Sunday and found 21 cases with about 200,000 unmarked cigarettes and cigars.
George Mike Saunders of Winnipeg and Candice Kowal of Garson, Man., are charged with trafficking in contraband tobacco, possession of unmarked cigarettes and possessing them for sale.
Provincial investigators also recently seized thousands of contraband and stolen cigarettes from three Winnipeg retail locations.
Five individuals found selling or in possession of illegal tobacco products not marked for Manitoba tax purposes face charges.
The province says cigarettes from a Winnipeg break and enter were also discovered on the premises and were being sold to the public.
The three retail locations have had their licences suspended.
