A man who stood in the middle of Highway 6 and threatened to shoot people is facing several charges after a bizarre incident on February 23.
RCMP were called to the scene at around 9 a.m. approximately 68 kilometres north of Grand Rapids.
Witnesses told officers that the man didn’t appear to have a gun, but was becoming increasingly violent. Police say the man punched and banged his head against the window of a semi-trailer while treating the driver. Other semis in the area blocked off the road until RCMP could arrive.
Attending officers were unable to get the man to respond to their commands, but eventually approached him and took him into custody without injury.
The man’s vehicle was found about one kilometre north along Highway 6 with footprints leading from it into the woods. Officers found a woman exiting the wooded area and walking towards the vehicle. She was searched and found to be in possession of methamphetamine. A knife and some illicit pills were found inside the vehicle, which police say was used by both the male suspect and the woman.
Raymond Vidler of Brandon, 44, faces numerous charges, including mischief, weapons and drug offences. A 42-year-old Brandon woman was also arrested and charges are pending.
