Teen Killed in Winnipeg Home Invasion as Police Shoot Attacker

Winnipeg Police CrestThe Independent Investigation Unit has been called in to probe a police shooting on Sunday night where a 17-year-old boy was killed.

Officers were responding to a break and enter at around 9 p.m. in the 700 block of McGee Street when the shooting occurred.

Police say they located the victim, who was home alone with his grandmother, being assaulted by a 29-year-old man with a weapon. Police shot the attacker and both people were taken to hospital in critical condition.

The victim, identified as Jaime Adao, later succumbed to his injuries as a result of the assault. The accused remains in hospital.
