An employee at Polo Park Shopping Centre was injured in an attempted robbery Thursday night when a suspect tried to run away with stolen clothing.

Police say the shoplifter tried to run out of Foot Locker, but was confronted by several employees. He attempted to flee, slashing one employee with a knife as he tried to escape.

He was eventually held by security for police.

The employee was sent to hospital in critical condition, but later upgraded to stable.

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with robbery, aggravated assault and weapon possession.
