The Winnipeg Goldeyes have signed second baseman Alex Perez to the club’s 2019 roster.
The Miami, Florida native spent time at three levels of the Minnesota Twins’ farm system, including his first career opportunity in Triple-A. He hit a combined .242 with 39 runs scored, 11 doubles, 34 RBI, and 41 walks in 101 games.
“I’m thrilled to add Alex to our team,” said Goldeyes’ manager Rick Forney. “I’ve been looking for a second baseman on the current free agent market, and Alex really stood out to me. Alex has Double-A and Triple-A experience over the last two years, and he is a fantastic defender.”
Perez is entering his fifth season of professional baseball, and was originally drafted by the Twins in the 23rd round in 2015 out of Virginia Tech University.
The Goldeyes now have 24 players under contract for the 2019 season.
