WINNIPEG — One firefighter suffered minor injuries early Saturday when a blaze broke out in the 400 block of Elgin Avenue.

Emergency crews responded just after midnight to find a well-involved fire with heavy smoke and flames in a two-storey vacant home.

Crews had the fire under control shortly before 2 a.m. The building suffered significant fire, smoke and water damage.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service said in an email that one firefighter suffered a minor injury while on scene. Paramedics treated the injury, but transport to the hospital wasn’t necessary.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.
