Winnipeg Police Logo CrestWINNIPEG — A security guard and a store clerk were both stabbed trying to stop the same suspect in two separate incidents on Friday.

Police say the man stole two pairs of sunglasses and some lighters from a hotel in the 300 block of Smith Street before fleeing. A security guard grabbed him, but was stabbed in the hand.

The guard suffered minor injuries, but didn’t require immediate medical attention.

A few hours later, the same suspect stole a bottle of shampoo from a store in the 700 block of Sherbrook Street. Police say an employee followed the man and tried to retrieve the shampoo, but was slashed in the wrist. The victim was treated for his injuries in hospital.

Officers later arrest the suspect walking in the area of Cumberland Avenue and Hargrave Street.

Justin Seth Shorting, 26, of Winnipeg faces several charges and remains in custody.
