WINNIPEG — A second person has died in two days in a Winnipeg house fire as crews battled a blaze early Wednesday in the city’s Linden Ridge neighbourhood.
Firefighters responded to a townhome condominium complex in the 700 block of Dovercourt Drive at around 1:50 a.m.
They found smoke coming from one unit and were told by neighbours that one person may still be inside. Firefighters located the person and had them transported to hospital in critical condition. They were later declared deceased. No other injuries were reported.
The unit suffered extensive fire, smoke and water damage, but the neighbouring unit wasn’t damaged.
The cause remains under investigation and no damage estimates are available.
It’s the second fatal fire in two days in Winnipeg. Early Tuesday, two elderly residents were pulled from a burning home in the 400 block of Boyd Avenue. One of them was taken to hospital in critical condition, where the other one later died.
