Police have charged a Winnipeg man with possession of child pornography after being tipped off in February that images were being uploaded to social media.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in the United States was alerted, who in turn alerted the National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre in Ottawa and Winnipeg police.

Officers executed a search warrant at a suite in an apartment building in the 600 block of Panet Road on April 8, seizing several electronic devices. Analysis of the hardware later revealed numerous child sexual abuse images.

Wade Arthur Herbert, 56, turned himself into police on Monday. He remains in custody.
