Ontario Police Arrest Winnipeg Man in Connection to Fatal Pembina Highway Stabbing

Winnipeg Police Logo CrestWinnipeg police have charged a man in a fatal stabbing that occurred on Pembina Highway on Monday.

Police responded to a lounge in the 300 block of Pembina late Monday night and found two men had been stabbed.

One of the victims was taken to hospital in critical condition and later died, while the other was upgraded to stable condition.

Police say it’s believed a dispute broke out inside, which led to the assault.

The victim has since been identified as Yazan Alhorani, 20, of Winnipeg.

On Tuesday afternoon, Ontario Provincial Police pulled over a vehicle on Highway 17A east of Kenora and arrested a man. He was later turned over to Winnipeg police and transported back to the city.

Mahfuthmm Assi, 20, of Winnipeg has been charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder.
