The Rural Municipality of Montcalm declared a local state of emergency Monday as water levels rose to overtake a section of road.

The province says mandatory evacuations for a number of residences are taking place as a precaution due to access issues.

Provincial officials are in contact with the RM, which stretches along Highway 75 near the U.S. border south of Winnipeg.
