An inmate at Stony Mountain Institution has died following an assault, which RCMP are investigating as a homicide.

Adrian Fillion, 42, was found with life-threatening injuries Monday morning and died in hospital.

At the time of his death, Fillion had been serving a sentence of six years and nine months for aggravated assault since July 5, 2013.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death.

Stonewall RCMP and the Correctional Services of Canada are investigating.

It’s the third death at the prison just north of Winnipeg in the last month. In March, Timothy Koltusky, 34, died while in custody. Earlier this month, Michael Monney, 27, was killed while serving a life sentence for second-degree murder. Four other inmates were later charged in his death.
