City Worker Arrested After Police Seize $8,500 Worth of Scrap Metal

Winnipeg Police Logo CrestA 32-year-old employee with the City of Winnipeg has been arrested and will be charged after $8,500 worth of city property was found at a St. Adolphe home.

Police began their investigation April 12 and executed a search warrant at the residence on April 19. They found and seized a quantity of scrap metal, including copper piping and an old fire hydrant.

The 32-year-old man will be charged with theft over $5,000 and was released on a promise to appear.

Police remind the public that the city has a fraud and waste hotline, which can be used to report suspected theft, fraud, or other inappropriate behaviour.
