Two new discount grocery stores will open up their doors to shoppers in Winnipeg next week.
FreshCo, part of the Sobeys Inc. family of stores, opened the first of 12 locations in Western Canada on Thursday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Mission, B.C.
“Canadians know the value of a dollar and so do we,” said Mike Venton, general manager, discount at Sobeys.
“Customers in Western Canada have been telling us they are hungry for discount shopping options and we’re excited to introduce them to FreshCo one community at a time. As we open in other communities like Jefferson in Winnipeg, customers will be excited to see how we design our multicultural product offer to meet the needs of the local community.”
The Winnipeg stores, which were each converted from Safeway, will be located at 920 Jefferson Avenue and at Kildonan Crossing, 500-1615 Regent Avenue West.
Both city locations will be open for business on May 2.
Nine other FreshCo stores will open in Richmond, Surrey, and the lower-mainland B.C. in the coming months.
