Members of Winnipeg’s West End community are hitting the streets Saturday for an organized clean-up event.
The annual community spring cleaning blitz is put on by the Spence Neighbourhood Association, and Daniel McIntyre / St. Matthews Community Centre.
“The West End Spring Clean-Up is more than just picking up litter,” said Olivia Michalczuk, SNA’s environment and open spaces coordinator.
“It brings community members of all ages and backgrounds together to make the West End an even better place to live. It builds pride and safety.”
Residents are meeting at 1 p.m. one of two registration points: Magnus Eliason Recreation Centre at 430 Langside Street or the DMSMCA Resource Centre at 823 Ellice Avenue.
Volunteers will pick up their bags, pickers and gloves before spending two hours gathering litter and other items. Lunch is provided at 3 p.m. at each site and several door prizes will be up for grabs before the event wraps at 4 p.m.
Among those taking part this year are 20 youth from the Ethiopian Society of Winnipeg helping out from the Langside site.
