Winnipeg Police Logo CrestWinnipeg police arrested a man Thursday night after they say he attempted to rob a lounge with a gun, but was held down by patrons.

The man entered the restaurant at around 9:10 p.m. in the 500 block of Notre Dame Avenue and demanded money from an employee while holding what appeared to be a gun.

Other patrons inside approached the man from behind and held him for police.

Officers arrived to find the man had an improvised firing device, as well as a knife and various calibre ammunition.

Eric John Lecoy, 52, of Winnipeg faces numerous charges and remains in custody.
