Winnipeggers now have a new option in the grocery market with the opening of FreshCo on Thursday.
The Sobeys Inc. discount grocery brand is continuing its Western Canada rollout and opened stores at 920 Jefferson Avenue and 500 1615 Regent Avenue West (Kildonan Crossing).
More than 100 people are employed at each of the new city locations.
“We’re ready to show Winnipeg all FreshCo has to offer. Customers will be impressed with our prices, quality fresh produce and multicultural assortment,” said Rex Quilapio, store owner at Jefferson FreshCo.
“The Filipino and South Asian communities will be wowed by the variety of products.”
FreshCo’s competitive edge is promising customers a rain check, plus 10 percent off if they can’t find a product advertised in the chain’s flyers.
Winnipeg-based Cantor’s Meats has a presence in both of the FreshCo locations, providing shoppers with a local taste of the beloved longtime butcher’s offerings.
To commemorate the openings, FreshCo has donated $5,000 each to the NorWest Co-op Community Food Centre and Chalmers Neighbourhood Renewal Corporation.
