Manitoba schools are encouraging students to wheel up to class as part of the annual Bike to School Month.
The Green Action Centre is organizing the initiative, which begins May 6, to promote the benefits of cycling: happier and healthier people, calmer streets and less pollution.
“I wish there was Bike to School Month when I was growing up,” said Sean Carlson, program coordinator at Green Action Centre. “After I started cycling regularly as a teenager, I thought, ‘What took me so long?’ It had never crossed my mind.’”
Schools can register online to get access to promotional materials, activity ideas, the chance to win prizes, and other resources to promote cycling during Bike to School Month and year-round.
The initiative ends June 5.
