Woman Facing Fraud Charges in Brandon Over Stolen Cheques

Brandon Police Service CrestA 37-year-old woman in Brandon has been charged after police say she opened up two fraudulent bank accounts and deposited stolen cheques.

Police say the woman used stolen identification to open accounts in the victim’s name, who then took a stolen cheque from a second victim and deposited it into one of the accounts.

The victim learned of the fraud when the bank contacted her about depositing stolen cheques. The victim then reported the incident to police and the suspect was arrested on Wednesday. She has been charged with possessing property obtained by crime, identity fraud, four counts of fraud under $5,000 and 24 counts of forgery.

She was scheduled to appear in Brandon court on Thursday.
