The annual CEO Sleepout fundraising event has a new home and a new organizer for 2019.
The event, which aims to alleviate homelessness, is now being organized by Siloam Mission and will be held at True North Square.
The sleepout was on hiatus last year after five previous events at Portage and Main were put on by the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ.
“We are honoured to be taking over this event, and truly excited to see what we can do in our community with the new Siloam Sleepout,” said Siloam Mission CEO Jim Bell. “As a past participant in the CEO Sleepout, I know the impact an event like this can have — both on the people participating, and on those we serve every day.”
Kate Fenske, CEO of the Downtown BIZ, says after her organization raised nearly $1 million over six years, they’re excited to pass the event on to reach success.
“We take great pride at the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ in creating new initiatives that help meet a need in our community and successfully transitioning those events and programs to our partners who can build on their success,” Fenske said.
This year’s Siloam Sleepout will be held Thursday, September 26, where participants will spend one night at True North Square, raising money and awareness for Siloam Mission and the challenges facing those experiencing homelessness in Winnipeg.
Registration is now open and fundraising efforts will begin in June.
