A day dedicated completely to Winnipeg’s trees and the beauty they bring is planned for Saturday in St. Vital Park.
The 16th annual Arbor Day is being put on by Trees Winnipeg and the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Prairie Chapter.
The free, one-day event is the city’s largest public event dedicated to trees and takes the city’s beloved urban canopy to new heights.
Tree climbing, zip lining rides and other tree-related activities will be offered, including the opportunity to chat with ISA-certified arborists. Wood-carving demonstrations, children’s crafts, and tree planting will also be part of the event.
Trees Winnipeg is also encouraging all Winnipeggers to plant a tree over the weekend. The organization recommends all newly planted trees be resilient species such as maple, linden, mountain ash and crab apple.
Arbor Day runs June 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. adjacent to the duck pond.
