A Manitoba Public Insurance campaign is putting the breaks on auto insurance fraud.
Since January 2019 the “Fraud: We All Pay” campaign increased calls to Manitoba Public Insurance’s TIPS Line by 63 per cent compared to the same period last year. The campaign focused on how auto insurance fraud raises rates by $50 for Manitobans.
From 290 calls to the TIPS Line, MPI’s Special Investigations Unit opened 52 investigations.
According to a recent MPI survey of 800 Manitobans, over 50 per cent said the “Fraud: We All Pay” advertisement would encourage them to report auto insurance fraud, and 70 per cent said the need to raise awareness about auto fraud is an issue itself.
Anyone with information about fraud is encouraged to contact MPI’s TIPS Line anonymously at (204) 985-8477 or toll-free 1-877-985-8477.
Last year, Manitobans saved all most $13 million due to fraudulent claims – the highest in ten years.
