Manitoba’s top four Ukrainian dance groups are hoping to raise the roof — and funds — for a school in the remote Carpathian Mountains of Ukraine.

The Selo Ukrainian Dancers, Sopilka Ukrainian Dance School, Troyanda Ukrainian Dance Ensemble, and Verba Ukrainian Dance Company will host a benefit concert for the Bukovets Secondary School.

The funds raised by the Manitoba Ukrainian dancers will provide the school with updated textbooks, technology, physical education equipment, and renovations.

The dancers visited the Community of Bukovets and the school in Ukraine. At the Bukovets Secondary School, the staff performed a reenactment of a traditional Hutsul wedding and taught the dancers about Ukrainian culture.

St. Mary’s Academy will host the concert on Saturday, June 8 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under.

Tickets and more information are available on Eventbrite.
