Winnipeg Fire Becomes a Homicide Investigation

A Winnipeg residential fire is now a crime scene.

On June 1 around 10:50 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service and Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a fire in the 500 block of Manitoba Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene, a residence was engulfed in flames and smoke. Two people escaped the blaze unassisted. One person was assessed by paramedics then taken to hospital in stable condition.

A male in his 60s was found inside the residence. The victim was identified as 63-year-old Hubert Wilson McKay.

Now, McKay’s death has been ruled a homicide.
