Sioux City Explorers Topple the Winnipeg Goldeyes

The Sioux City Explorers snagged a win over the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Shaw Park Thursday night in a 5-0 contest.

The Explorers’ Taylor Jordan, pitched a complete game, earning a three-hit shutout and no walks. Jordan battered the fish, retiring the final 19 players who faced him. Winnipeg Goldeyes starting pitcher Kevin McGovern walked one player and struck out five. After allowing five earned runs in seven innings, Brandon Bingel relieved McGovern. Bingel pitched two scoreless innings.

In the fifth inning, the Explorers ended a scoreless tie. Kyle Wren smacked a two-out, RBI triple. Next at bat was Michael Lang with a two-run homer.

At the top of the sixth, Dexture McCall snatched second-base after Drew Stankiewicz’s bunt. McCall scored the Explorers’ fourth nod, thanks to Lucas Bonfield’s groundout. Nate Samson gets the gold for his two-out, RBI single at the top of the seventh.

Two scoreless innings later, the Explorers would take the game, 5-0.

The Goldeyes start a three-game series Friday, June 7th at Shaw Park against the Cleburne Railroaders. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Mitchell Lambson (2-1, 2.88) will be the Goldeyes’ starting pitcher.
