Star Dancer

Star Dancer is the newest ride to grace the midway at the Red River Ex. (RED RIVER EXHIBITION ASSOCIATION)

The Red River Ex is keeping things fresh this year with new attractions, shows, and a head-turning addition to the exhibition’s midway called Star Dancer.

The fun begins today when gates open at 3 p.m. Those who attend tonight will be treated to a free performance by the RCAF band Jet Stream.

EXtinction Park Dinosaur

EXtinction Park is new this year at the Red River Ex. (RED RIVER EXHIBITION ASSOCIATION)

Also new for 2019 is EXtinction Park, giving revellers a chance to interact with life-like dinosaurs, including a T-rex.

The Silver Starlets, a high-flying, aerial, acrobatic show, will thrill visitors using a 20-foot-high free-standing aerial rig for their stage.

Opening weekend also includes the Manitoba Ag Museum (June 14-19), providing up-close demos of a steam engine and threshing machine.

New 3D fireworks will entertain those who attend next Saturday, June 22.

If you happen to be at the park on Monday, June 17, a Royal Canadian Air Force CT-142 Dash-8 aircraft from 402 Winnipeg Squadron will conduct a flyby between 4-6 p.m.

Advance gate tickets are $12 — a $3 savings from purchasing at the gate. Pay-one-price wristbands (purchased in advance) are $39 and provide you with all the midway rides you can ride plus gate admission. Kids six and under are free.

Advance tickets are available at RedRiverEx.com and at Giant Tiger, Safeway, Sobeys and Circle K (formerly Mac’s).

The Red River Ex runs June 14-23.
