WINNIPEG — Kildonan Place is closing the curtain on its outdated movie theatre and making way for something new.
The existing Famous Players Kildonan Place Cinemas will be replaced by Cineplex Entertainment to include an all-in-one entertainment experience for guests.
Aside from movies, features include upgraded food and beverage options, amusement games and attractions. The 35,000-square-foot space will include a new, six-screen theatre, including UltraAVX and luxury recliner seats in each of its auditoriums.
“Winnipeg movie-lovers have enjoyed visiting Famous Players Kildonan Place Cinemas for close to 30 years and today we are excited to announce that a new entertainment complex will be coming soon for the community to enjoy,” said Ellis Jacob, president and CEO, Cineplex, in a release.
“Entertainment is at the heart of everything we do at Cineplex and this innovative space has been totally reimagined with our guests front and centre.”
A large amusement game and attractions area will allow kids and grown-ups alike to compete to earn points for prizes, as well as interact with virtual reality from VRstudios.
Construction of the new complex is scheduled to begin late next year, with an anticipated opening date of 2021. The existing movie theatre will remain open until construction of the new building is complete.
Cineplex is also working on another entertainment venue in Winnipeg. The Rec Room will open in late 2020 on Sterling Lyon Parkway and include 40,000 square feet of ‘eatertainment-style’ dining options with more than 110 amusement games.
