Ringing in Canada Day next weekend with some fireworks? Don’t forget to get your permit.

The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service is reminding residents to apply in advance of the holiday. The permits are free and each application is reviewed by the WFPS Fire Prevention Branch.

Permit applications are available online or at 185 King Street.

Requirements for permit approval include:

  • The applicant must be over 18 years of age – proof of age is required
  • The applicant must be the owner of the land where the display is to take place as documented by a driver’s license or some other form of identification OR the applicant has provided written permission from the owner of the land where the display is to take place; if the display is to take place on city land, written permission from the City of Winnipeg department responsible for the land is required
  • A sketch of the site is required, including the location of the firing base to ensure a 100-foot clearance on all sides
