Retired CAO Doug McNeil Winnipeg’s Top Earner in 2018

The former chief administrative officer of the City of Winnipeg, Doug McNeil, was the top paid civic employee in 2018.

The city’s annual compensation disclosure document was released Thursday, showing the salaries of elected officials and city employees who earned $50,000 or more last year.

McNeil earned an annual salary of $266,483, which also came with a $700 monthly vehicle allowance, free downtown parking and six weeks of paid vacation, according to his contract.

McNeil retired in the spring.

Police Chief Danny Smyth came in second on the list at $260,510.

Winnipeg Mayor Brian Bowman pulled in $188,741, while Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Chief John Lane earned $174,078.
