An unlicensed Winnipeg daycare operator has been charged after a six-month-old child was severely injured while in her care.
Police say they began investigating in October 2018 after the child was found with multiple serious head injuries after suffering significant head trauma.
Police were coincidently called to the in-home daycare on October 10 on an unrelated matter, where the child was seen in good health. Hours later, the victim’s parents picked up the child, who was in severe medical distress. He was taken to Children’s Hospital as his condition worsened.
Detectives arrested the daycare operator on Thursday after months of investigating.
Annette Akerhor Onakpoya, 37, has been charged with aggravated assault. She remains in custody.
