Winnipeg Police Logo CrestA 29-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged after becoming violent with police officers who were checking on his well-being.

The suspect was the subject of a call to the 100 block of Guay Avenue Sunday morning after several people were reportedly fighting. Officers arrived to find the man injured and lying on the front steps of the home.

As police were checking on him, he punched an officer, who fell down to the ground. He then attempted to take their firearm. A Taser was used to take him into custody and eventually to the hospital. While in care, police say he also spit in the face of an officer.

He remains in custody.
