Man Drowns While Swimming in Northern Manitoba River

RCMP Crest Logo VehicleA 39-year-old man Shamattawa has drowned after he was caught in the current of the Gods River.

Manitoba RCMP say the man was pulled to the shore by bystanders Wednesday afternoon behind the 100 block of Riverside Road.

He had gone swimming and experienced problems while attempting to swim back to shore. The man was pulled under by the current and eventually resurfaced, where he was pronounced deceased.

Shamattawa RCMP are continuing to investigate.
