The City of Winnipeg has expanded free Wi-Fi internet access to 50 city facilities with no caps on data.
Areas of connectivity throughout the city include libraries, pools, golf courses, and community centres. Beginning in August, the service will also be available in four Winnipeg police stations.
The announcement comes as a complement to the city’s existing partnership with Shaw, which sees Wi-Fi already available in more than 130 civic facilities. For non-Shaw internet customers, data is capped at 500 MB per month.
“It is a pleasure to cut the cord today on free unlimited Wi-Fi in 50 City facilities,” said Mayor Brian Bowman in a statement. “Through our partnership with Shaw, these public facilities will now be fully connected with no data caps for citizens and visitors alike!”
Residents and visitors can connect to the network on their device by choosing WPG-WIFI from the network menu, opening their internet browser and accepting the city’s terms of use.
