A Winnipeg firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion Sunday afternoon while battling a blaze in the 400 block of Maryland Street.
Crews were called to the vacant house at around 1:10 p.m. to find heavy smoke and flames. They began an offensive attack but had to retreat outside as conditions deteriorated.
Temperatures Sunday made it feel like closer to 40 degrees with the humidex.
The fire was declared under control at 2:24 p.m., according to a fire department spokesperson.
No occupants were found inside.
The firefighter was treated on scene by paramedics. No other injuries were reported.
The cause is under investigation.
