WINNIPEG — A man has been safely removed from a St. James home after a standoff Wednesday.
Winnipeg police responded to a 911 call in the 300 block of Brooklyn Street shortly after 10:30 a.m. for a man believed to be armed with a gun.
The tactical support unit and the Winnipeg police armoured rescue vehicle (ARV1) attended the scene, while officers closed traffic in the area as a safety precaution.
Const. Rob Carver said the man was safely removed from the home and taken into custody. It’s unclear whether he had a firearm, as was initially believed.
“This is always a win for us,” Carver said. “If we can make sure everyone goes home safe without injuries, then we’ve won. That’s our goal and we were successful once again.”
Carver said officers negotiated with the suspect prior to him being taken into custody.
Police are continuing to investigate.
