Man Charged After Pointing Gun at Store Clerk, Pulling Trigger

Winnipeg Police Logo CrestWinnipeg police have arrested a man after a convenience store was robbed at gunpoint last month in the 1100 block of Kildare Avenue East.

Police say the suspect enter the store at around 1 a.m. on July 30 and pointed a gun at an employee’s head. The trigger was pulled several times, but it failed to fire. The suspect re-inserted the ammunition magazine and attempted to fire again, but the gun didn’t go off. He then left the store with stolen merchandise before pointing the gun at two bystanders outside.

The suspect was located on August 3 at a home in the 400 block of Pritchard Avenue.

Tyrell Jeferd Wood, 21, of Winnipeg has been charged with attempted murder, armed robbery using a firearm, three counts of pointing a firearm, possession of a firearm and failing to comply with a probation order.

Wood also had two outstanding warrants for his arrest for previous violations of a probation order.

He remains in custody.
