A woman died early Friday in a house fire in Cross Lake.

RCMP in the community noticed smoke coming from the residence at around 3:30 a.m. They were unable to gain entry through the front door due to smoke, so broke several windows in an attempt to get inside.

Officers spotted a woman on the floor of the home and were able to bring her outside safely. The 93-year-old woman was taken to hospital but succumbed to her injuries.

The Office of the Fire Commissioner along with the RCMP continue to investigate.
