An 81-year-old man from Eriksdale has died after a head-on crash about five kilometres southeast of Woodlands, Manitoba.

RCMP say the man was driving north on Highway 6 near Road 79 N at around 4:50 p.m. on Tuesday when he tried to pass another vehicle. His SUV collided with an oncoming pickup truck travelling south, being driven by a 52-year-old Norway House man.

The elderly driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. The second driver was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.

Stonewall RCMP are investigating the crash.
