There could be a potential traffic disruption this long weekend

According to the Manitoba RCMP, they were contacted by the Southern Chiefs’ Organization. The SCO has two planned protests, scheduled for today, August 30 between 5:30 p.m and 7 p.m. RCMP expects traffic to slowdown at the protest locations.

The potential delay locations are:

  • Highway 75 near the Emerson Port of Entry
  • Highway 59 near the South Beach Casino & Resort

The protest organizers indicted these protests are peaceful. The protest will include a 10-minute Round Dance, and they’ll break for 15 minutes to allow traffic to pass.

“We will have a number of officers on scene at both locations to ensure the safety and security of everyone involved,” said Sgt. Paul Manaigre of the Manitoba RCMP. “We know people want to get to their destinations but we ask the public to be patient, to slow down when approaching police vehicles, and follow the instructions of the officers.”
