Winnipeg Police Logo CrestWinnipeg police have made two arrests in a string of purse-snatchings this week.

Police say between September 3-4, five women had their purses forcibly stolen in the Centennial and West Alexandar neighbourhoods. In multiple cases, the victims were approached at gunpoint and knocked to the ground but didn’t suffer serious injuries.

In the latest case on September 4, a man and woman in their 40s were leaving a residence in the 400 block of William Avenue when they were approached by a man. He grabbed the woman’s purse and then took out a knife and began slashing at the hands of both victims, knocking the woman to the ground. The suspect fled with the purse and both people were treated in hospital for several wounds to their hands.

Police have arrested and charged Walter Fidel Flett, 24, and Megan Singleton, 24, with numerous offences. Flett faces additional charges of assault, assault with a weapon and possession of a firearm.

Both suspects remain in custody.
