Winnipeg police have arrested and charged a man after two armed robberies last Friday afternoon.
Police say the man stole various items from two retail stores in the 900 block of Nairn Avenue and the 1500 block of Regent Avenue West on September 6.
In the first robbery, a security guard was threatened with a knife and knocked to the ground. Hours later, the suspect brandished a sawed-off shotgun at a loss prevention officer at another store. In both cases, the man fled in a stolen 2007 Chevrolet Silverado that had been taken from the Linden Woods area in August.
Police spotted the stolen truck on Sunday night in the 1400 block of Fife Street and arrested the driver. They also seized $1,475 in cash, 16 grams of a white powder, believed to be cocaine, with an estimated street value of $1,350, two baggies of a substance, believed to be crystal methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of $5,350, and an UZI-style BB-gun.
Larry Albert Houge, 38, faces numerous charges and was already the subject of a 10-year firearms ban, a Canada-wide driving prohibition and two previous arrest warrants.
He remains in custody.
