A Winnipeg man is accused of stealing mechanical parts out of several school buses, causing an estimated $56,800 in losses.

Police say their investigation found numerous thefts between July to September 3, where catalytic converters and diesel particulate filters were stolen from five school buses in two separate incidents.

The suspect is said to have tried selling the stolen parts for scrap metal for approximately $500. Police added that the vehicle used in the theft was found to have stolen licence plates from another vehicle.

The 38-year-old man, whose name hasn’t been released, faces multiple charges. He was released on a promise to appear.
