A two-year-old child was struck and killed by a vehicle in the community of Shamattawa Friday afternoon.

Manitoba RCMP responded to the local nursing station after the accident on Jackfish Road at around 4 p.m.

Police say the boy suddenly appeared as the female driver was coming around the rear of the residence. She told officers that she couldn’t stop in time.

The child was taken to the nursing station and pronounced deceased.

Alcohol and speed aren’t considered factors in the collision.
