A new running track at Victor Mager School has reached the finish line.
The 400-metre, four-lane outdoor track was officially opened on Friday and includes a rubberized surface.
“I have been a runner for more than 40 years, and I am extremely proud to open this new facility in St Vital,” said Brian Mayes, councillor for St. Vital.
“This is the first new 400m rubberized track in Winnipeg since 1967, and it will benefit both competitive and recreational runners.”
The project cost the city $500,000 from the 2018 operating budget through a revitalization grant and $300,000 from the St. Vital ward land dedication reserve.
Last year, nearby Dakota Collegiate received a new artificial turf field, an outdoor basketball court, and cricket batting cage as part of similar facilities upgrades.
