Winnipeg police are investigating the city’s latest homicide where the victim was later hit by a vehicle.

Police say the 40-year-old man was found lying in the roadway shortly after midnight Wednesday on Main Street near Higgins Avenue.

He was found suffering from injuries and given CPR by officers until paramedics arrived. The victim, identified as Neilson Catcheway of Winnipeg, was taken to hospital in critical condition and later died.

Police say their investigation has so far determined Catcheway had been assaulted and then hit by an unrelated northbound vehicle.

Winnipeg Transit operators who came across the victim stopped buses and blocked one lane of traffic until police arrived. Northbound Main Street was closed several hours as officers investigated.

Police are asking the driver of the vehicle to come forward.

Anyone with further information is asked to contact police at (204) 986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-TIPS (8477).
