WINNIPEG — Two people have been arrested and charged following a machete attack on a man Monday morning.
The victim, in his 20s, was walking along Pembina Highway near Dudley Avenue at around 5 a.m. when he was slashed in the leg. Police say the attack was unprovoked and the man had been walking towards downtown at the time.
Officers on patrol came across the victim and applied a tactical tourniquet to stem the bleeding. The victim was in shock and transferred to hospital, where he was later upgraded to stable condition.
Police identified two suspects and found them at a hotel in the Polo Park area on Friday evening.
Arlen Justin Drew Robert Sumner, 20, and a 17-year-old girl have been charged with aggravated assault, robbery and mischief under $5,000.
Police say both suspects are believed to be responsible for a robbery at an Osborne Street convenience store on the same day as the attack. During the robbery, police say a machete was used in a threatening manner.
Both suspects remain in custody.
