Four people are in police custody after an armed robbery at the Somerset Hotel on Monday afternoon.
Pembina Valley RCMP were called to the hotel at around 1 p.m. after a man and woman entered and demanded cash from the employee. The male suspect took out a handgun during the ordeal before both of them fled in a stolen Chevrolet Impala.
Police soon found that the vehicle had hit the ditch along Highway 5, located north of Cartwright, near Provincial Road 253.
A 19-year-old Long Plain First Nation woman was arrested at the scene, while the male driver fled on foot into the adjacent cornfield. He stole a pickup truck from a nearby residence, but was immediately stopped by police. The 25-year-old man — also from Long Plain First Nation — was arrested.
Two other suspects were identified as being involved in the robbery and led police to the community of Crystal City. A 43-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, both from Long Plain First Nation, were arrested.
All four suspects face numerous charges and remain in custody
Pembina Valley RCMP continue to investigate.
