A Winnipeg child is in critical condition after a weapon assault at a home in the 300 block of Pritchard Avenue early Wednesday.
Police were called to the scene shortly after 2:30 a.m. and found the child suffering from upper-body injuries. The boy remains in hospital in “grave condition,” according to police spokesperson Const. Jay Murray.
“I can’t imagine the fear and panic that a three-year-old would feel just before something like this would happen,” Murray said during a news conference Wednesday.
“It’s going to be very hard for a lot of people to comprehend that something of this magnitude would happen to a child that age.”
No arrests have been made. The Winnipeg police major crimes unit is investigating. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at (204) 986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-TIPS (8477).
The assault marks the latest serious incident in the city within the past week. A 14-year-old girl was slain at a Halloween party last weekend on Kinver Avenue, while two men were fatally assaulted in a rear lane on Ross Avenue the next day. A 16-year-old girl and 18-year-old woman have been charged in relation to the teen’s death.
